The three types of battery tester

The cheapest option: a resting-voltage reading tells you state of charge but not true health under load. Fine as a first indicator, not a verdict.

- CCA range that covers your typical stock — small hatchbacks up to larger diesels
- Battery types supported: standard lead-acid, AGM and EFB (common in stop-start cars)
- Clear display and a genuine pass/marginal/fail readout, not just a number to interpret
- Build that survives life in a toolbox or van door pocket
